It was during the Medieval age when Molise was split in different communities. At the time there were various territories considered areas of defence from the other dominations, especially Aragonese. On the one hand this did not allow big villages to grow in this territory, but on the other hand gave the shape to today's villages build around the many Castles present in the region, villages built as centre of defence and administration.
- The Civita of Bojano
The Medieval village of the Civita of Bojano rise up on a mount that originally hosted the rest of the Sannitic Bovanium (V-VI century AC) as testified by excavations that have unearthed ancient archaeological artefacts in that area. The heart of the village looks to be the old village walls and the castle (that is unfortunately destroyed now)
